WFP: Joint Collaborations with Rome-based agencies essential to achieving the Millennium Development Goals
World Food Programme carried out the first 2005 Regular Session of its Executive Board Meeting from 31 January to 2 February 2005 stressing among other issues, the need to focus on strengthening partnerships with other UN agencies while calling for a global action against hunger.
During this meeting several issues were at the centre of discussions and reactions from the delegations; the need for WFP to add to its priorities transition from relief activities to development, the importance of coordinating and creating partnerships with other UN agencies (especially those with headquarters in Rome) as well as NGOs and governments the need for in-depth and precise emergency needs assessments and the need for better disaster prevention and preparedness through a lessons-learned analysis from WFP’s activities.
WFP's Executive Board positively highlighted the joint implementation
of 77 WFP/FAO and 7 WFP/IFAD projects and that more collaborative
efforts could be achieved especially when WFP finalize operations
to leave room for agricultural and economic development. WFP acknowledged
that joint collaboration with Rome-based agencies will be particularly
valuable in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
