Communication and Natural Resource Management, Theory and Experience. An FAO resource book

A variety of theories and approaches on communication strategies explained through specific experiences carried out in several parts of the world are included in a recently published book called "Communication and Natural Resource Management".

This resource book is the result of a combined effort between the Communication Initiative and the Communication for Development Group at the FAO, with the collaboration of the Strategic Communication for Sustainable Development Unit of the World Bank.

The main objective of the publication is to enhance development institutions and rural people's capacities in managing communication processes in support of sustainable natural resource management. This manual presents case studies showing a variety of communication approaches and methods being used successfully in the field of natural resource management, as well as exercises to draw lessons from field experiences.

Communication and Natural Resource Management looks at how experience is, and can be guided by theory and how theory can be derived from understanding experience. It challenges us to reflect on our own and others' work by treating theoretical approaches as interchangeable tools within a variety of different communication and natural resource management initiatives.

The launching of the book was promoted by an e-forum where experts and communication professionals shared their views on the publication and reflected on issues related to communication in natural resource management.
