ECOLEX: an on-line database on environmental law
A comprehensive global source of information on environmental law called ECOLEX is now available on-line in English, French and Spanish.
Under the sponsorship of the Dutch government and uniting the efforts of FAO,
The World Conservation Unit (IUCN) and the
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), ECOLEX constitutes a unique resource offering information on treaties, international soft-law and other non-binding policy and technical guidance documents, national legislation, judicial decisions and policy literature, all regarding the environment. Through the internet, users can now have direct access to the abstracts and indexing information about each document, as well as to the full text of most of the information provided.
In the context of sustainable development, environmental laws have become an important tool for environment and natural resources management. This web will enable those involved in the design and implementation of national legal mechanisms in the field to access information that is sometimes difficult to locate.
