InfoREDBIO: an information resource website on biotechnology development
In order to foster biotechnology, the Technical Cooperation Network on Plant Biotechnology in Latin American and the Caribbean launched a website called InfoREDBIO. Under the management and development of the Chile Redbío Foundation established by the Foundation for Agrarian Innovations of Chile (Spanish acronym: FIA), this website offers information regarding research and innovation tools available for biotechnology developments in agriculture, forest and aquaculture, focusing on Latin-American and Caribbean countries.
To face the challenges of food security issues of a rising world population, plant biotechnology can play an important role in increasing productivity and diversification through sustainable agriculture.
InfoREDBIO is also a valuable source of information regarding regional funding sources available, a directory of biotechnology researchers, events related to biotechnology in the Latin American area as well as information on supply and demand of products and services associated to biotechnology. The information available on the website is constantly updated and new information on the system can be added at any time.
The Network's activities are part of FAO's
Special Program for Food Security and the follow-up of the
World Food Summit 1996 as well as the
Global Plan of Action for
the Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources.
