Information event on SARD-M to be held during next FAO Conference
On the occasion of the FAO Conference (29 November-10 December 2003), an information event on the project for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Mountain Regions (SARD-M) will take place at FAO Headquarters on 2 December 2003. Following the First Meeting of the Adelboden Group on SARD-M held last September in Rome (see
October 2003 Update on this meeting), the SARD-M Project Team is currently finalizing a four-year multi-donor project proposal and has recently issued a
communication document presenting the core of the project.
The aim of the information event is to introduce to the representatives of Governments, International Organizations and Civil Society's organizations and Major Groups the content of the project proposal and to mobilize the direct involvement and potential contribution of concerned stakeholders. A technical meeting to discuss the next operational steps - start-up of project activities, building partnerships with interested key actors and strengthening synergies with other SARD-related projects - will follow.
Through a participatory process, the SARD-M Project aims to design improved policy packages for sustainable agriculture and rural development, notably in mountain regions, thus contributing to the overall implementation of Chapters 14 (Promoting SARD) and 13 (Sustainable Mountain Development) of Agenda 21.
