Perú: The Thematic Group studies the implications of the law that will facilitate exportation of Andean products to the USA
The Andean Product Tariffs and Drug Eradication Act (APTDEA), approved recently by the Congress of the United States (and valid from October 2002 to December 2006), will be the object of debate in the upcoming session of the Thematic Group on Rural Development and Food Security in Peru.
The APTDEA, which will facilitate the entry of more than 6000 products from Andean countries such as Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador into the North American market without paying the tax that is charged on imported goods, carries a number of challenges for the country that will be presented and analysed by the representatives of the Community of Andean Nations (CAN) and the Unit of Trade and Negotiations of the Agriculture Ministry.
In this way, the international trade of agricultural products is added to the list of themes treated by the Groups of the Network of the United Nations on rural development and food security.
