Mexico: On its way to establishing a Thematic Group
The creation of a Thematic Group on Rural Development and Food Security is currently under way in Mexico. The ways of implementing this group are being discussed by the potential members.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mexico, Thierry Lemaresquier, welcomed the efforts that the FAO representation is making in the establishment of guiding principles for the Mexican Thematic Group.
Fulfilment of the
Millennium Development Goals is extremely important among UN System Agencies at the country level. In this sense, the establishment of a Thematic Group could work as a platform of discussion and information exchange among the UN System, Government, multilateral/bilateral agencies, private sector, academic/research institutes and NGOs offering a useful instrument in achieving the goal of alleviating poverty and improving food security.
