Ethiopia: Donor Group on Rural Economic Development and Food Security to represent the Thematic Group
The Donor Group on Rural Economic Development and Food Security will replace the Food Security and Agriculture Committee (FSAC) that previously represented the Thematic Group for Rural Development and Food Security in Ethiopia.
The main proposed issues to be tackled by this group include rural development, market development, secondary town development and private sector development. Many of these areas where recommended by the Donor Assistance Group (DAG) during the launching of the National Alliance against hunger in this country called, “New Coalition for Food Security in Ethiopia.” The FSAC would continue playing its role in broad co-ordination between donors and NGOs and as an information-sharing forum.
One of the key inputs the Group will give is towards the Sustainable Development Poverty Reduction Program. The activities of the group include: exchange of information and map donor supported programs, coordination of donor’s positions and dialogue with government, support sectoral or sub-sectoral development programmes in the field of rural economic development and food security, exploration of opportunities for donor collaboration and mobilisation of resources, pooled funding, etc.
The Group has scheduled to meet every month and the Chairmanship will rotate annually between member organisations.
