Laos: Thematic Group creates two new working groups

Four years after the creation of the Laos Thematic Group in 2001, two cross sector and interagency working groups were established to continue fulfilling the Group’s mandate of contributing to sustainable rural development and food security at the national level.

One group has been established to work on food security information systems and the other on nutrition and food security. Their main objectives are to provide policy advice, synergies between stakeholders, exchange information and identify areas of future collaboration for Food security activities.

In the past this Thematic Group has been actively involved in organizing seminars on topics such as g overnmental policies and priorities in rural development, forest lands and local planning (read December 2002 update). Most recently, seminars have been organized by the Thematic Group on food security information systems and agricultural biodiversity and food security.
