Dominican Republic: Members of Thematic Group share information on recent activities
Representatives from Government, FAO and WFP officers in Dominican Republic, as well as members of the French and Taiwanese embassies shared information on their most recent activities during the Thematic Group’s meeting held in September 2005.
The FAO representative informed members that Dominican Republic had been selected as one of the countries to implement “Public and Private Alliances for Rural Development”. The initiative will include the participation of government as well as the private sector.
The World Food Programme representative presented its recent activities related to the gathering of information for the drafting of a Hunger and Malnutrition ATLAS in the country. This document will be useful to design strategies and action plans in the fight against hunger.
Government representatives from the State Secretariat of Agriculture committed to carry-out a presentation on their work regarding food security and the status of the reforms of the agrarian sector.
