Venezuela: Thematic Group on Rural Development and Food Security reactivates activities
Since June 2005, the National Thematic Group on Rural Development and Food Security of Venezuela has been meeting to reactivate its activities in this country.
The Thematic Group was officially established in 1998 as a follow-up to the World Food Summit seeking to serve as an interministerial coordination mechanism for the activities of its members. The TG's current members include FAO, UNDP, UNICEF, PHO/WHO, WB, UNFPA, UNIFEM, International Organization of Migration, Inter-American Development Bank, Ministerio de la Alimentación (food ministry), Corporación Andina de Fomento (Andean Development Corporation), Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the European Community.
The renewed Thematic Group has been structured at two levels of analysis and decisions: the National Thematic Group comprised of the representatives of the different UN system agencies and the Technical Group formed by officers designated by each agency.
